Mom's Group
The Pine Spring Mom's Group brings neighborhood families together
to help create a stronger sense of community. In this group families
can get to know eachother and do fun activities. While it's mostly
been moms who have been participating to date, dads are also welcome!
The Mom's Group started in 2001 and meets periodically (usually
once a month on a Saturday morning from 10-12 am) in someone's home.
However, they've also organized field trips. For more information,
please call Angela Bandemehr at 703-849-8682 or email her at dpatterson11@cox.net.
Pine Spring Park Shade Garden
Community residents have been working diligently for several years
at transforming the wooded trails in Pine Spring Park into a beautiful
garden of shade tolerant plants. The garden began as a PSCA-sponsored
project under the coordination of John Mastenbrook. John worked
with the County to establish the Mastenbrook Volunteer Matching
Fund Grant Program (see story at Earthvision
Environmental News), and then helped secure over $6,000 in funds
for the plants and supplies. In the early days of the project John
and Frank Crosby tended to the plants' water needs by running hoses
from Pine Spring School. This was not an optimal solution, and John
worked with the Fairfax County Park Authority to have an in-ground
sprinkler system installed.
This past year John turned the reins of the PSCA Shade Garden Committee
over to Phoebe Kline. John continues to give guidance and support
as the Committee's Senior Consultant.
Several PSCA members have donated plants from their yards for the
Shade Garden. Should you want to donate plants to the park, or for
more information about the Shade Garden Committee, call Phoebe Kline
at (703) 207-9657.
If you want to help plant the garden, call Angela Bandemehr at
(703) 849-8682 to get on the call list for planting sessions (no
calls after 9 pm, please).
